The Sound of Cinema: Daniel Hernandez

Image
We “watch” movies and television shows. That simple statement reveals the fact that we often overlook the other senses which transfix us when enjoying the stories presented to us through these mediums. Sound engineer and musician Daniel Hernandez takes no offense to this; partially because it’s the norm and partially because the lack of direct attention to the sounds he is in charge of means that he is performing his work at the highest level. When you expect to “hear” the story and don’t notice anything, this is proof that it is done exceptionally well. The sound of these productions is essential and yet unassuming. This belies the varied and often challenging nature of the work that Daniel does for the films which populate his resume. From dark comedy to heart-breaking drama, “seeing” a film with your ears is a required complement to what you watch. In the music world, an engineer is on the opposite side of the production equation. An accomplished musician in his own right...

Interview with musician Chris McEwen

Image
Chris McEwen is a music creator. He is a very solitary person, too sensitive in a hard world. Music is the only real connection to the world that he has. He works by himself doing everything from concept through production from his apartment. Chris has a distribution contract with Neicy Records in Ohio handled by Twitter promotions and recently collaborated with Cris Vola from Italy, a piano piece of his with a soulful searing lead guitar line, on the way to Itunes now. What do you consider as inspirations and connections to your style of music? The inspiration for my style of music comes from many sources. I could see from a young age that this music was a way to express yourself unlike any other. Subjects that were not allowed or not discussed, were accepted through music, to me this was a very important part of finding a way to express difficult emotions that I was experiencing. The style was firmly implanted in 1978 when Van Halen exploded with "the sound" I...

My inspiration behind my Single Corrupt. Came from, how I felt when I found out who had won the Presidential Election for 2017. Why did you name it 'Corrupt'? What is your story? I named my song Corrupt because Donald Trump portrays he cares so much about America. In my opinion all reality everything he's doing or has planned is only to better himself financially. Donald Trump disrespected people with disabilities, he makes sexist comments toward women, he's banning transgender military recruits. My single Corrupt is also helping with Hurricane Harvey relief by purchasing independent music. I was in Willy Northpole "Back To Mexico" music video. So watching Willy get signed to Disturbing the Peace, motivated me to want to make my own music and create my own style. How di...
