Interview with singer and songwriter Terrence Léon

Image
Debuting in 2015, Terrence Léon is a singer-songwriter based in Austin, Texas. Starting on SoundCloud, his first EP, “The Richest Man in Babylon”, received raving reviews and reception. While finding his foundation from the relaxed, nostalgic aesthetic of traditional 90s R&B, yet his distinctly vibrant, ethereal sound is a derivative of today's modern influences. Switching between R&B, Alt-R&B and Pop Adjacent productions, Terrence takes from life experiences to either create a sonic refuge or a place to process. Why did you name "LOADING...the mixtape", your 5-song mixtape about the end of a relationship you weren't quite done with? Well in a sense because it was a timestamp of my processing. I wasn’t exactly sure what I was feeling, or how I was processing it. From not being able to accept that it’s over, to questioning what it was from the beginning. I went through every emotion, even wanting to resolve it. The beginning stages of mourning your loss of...

Dar.Ra - Ballads for the Downtrodden

Image
Irish music artist Dar.Ra’s brand-new album Ballads for the Downtrodden, is his remarkable release to date. It’s 12-track collection that is more laid back, compared to his previous album and extended-plays. Revisiting the vault of tracks, he came across some old material that made the album’s final cut including ‘Evermore’ which was written for his mother’s sad passing. He dives deeper into his songwriting abilities revealing a different storyline than listeners’ are used to with subliminal messages, not that anything sinister and mind controlling is at work but merely to suggest that not everything should be handed away so easily on first experience, which all art should do. Ballads for the Downtrodden, is an album that will bring the chills, draw some tears and leave you with some hope that someone is still carrying the banner for music that moves you on all levels. Dar.Ra When did you release your first solo album? What inspires you to become a singer-songwriter/musician? ‘Soul Hou...

Brooke Henzell’s Musical Evolution in an International Journey

Image
The epitome of art would be a world in which the artist is allowed to create and speak from their perspective without the public or the industry attempting to impose a label on that artist. Caloundra, Queensland, Australia native Brooke Henzell is contributing greatly to the advancement of this without purposefully taking up this flag. She’s a modern artist who openly seeks out deviation from any formulaic approach to her music; it’s this course which continues to bring new fans to Henzell’s work. From appearances in her home country on major events such as Chanel 7’s Televised Christmas Carols (which averages nearly ¼ of the television viewership in Australia), as the lead singer of the band M Factor, or her performances in New York, Brooke’s enchanting vocals and songs have made her an international sensation while also confirming that she is a deep writer. Image
Danny McKinnon doesn’t care much for labeling musical genres, even though he has a Grammy with a label/genre printed on it. While confirming that he’s proud to have this acknowledgement, it’s not the end goal for him as he states, “I think the biggest achievement is getting in the room with really talented people and being able to create with them. McKinnon has earned the biggest awards and played some of the most iconic live music venues in the world yet he confirms that every day and every new project is a fresh opportunity to prove his artistic merit, one which he excitedly welcomes.
