Interview with nonfiction writer Angela Cohan

Angela Cohan is a nonfiction writer from Los Angeles, California. She is working on a Persian Cookbook and we have conducted a short interview with her. Which culinary non-fiction books do you write? I an working on passing down my family recipes. Over a hundred recipes are featured in the cookbook. Which genres have you chosen to write? I have previously written short stories, poetry and fashion articles. I have been cooking for the past 27 years. Why is your Persian Cookbook so unique? My cookbook is unique because it features the foods and traditions of Persian Jews. In it I highlight our Friday night (Shabbat) traditions and special holiday foods. Who do you plan to reach with your cookbook? What is your main goal? My goal is to reach young and first time cooks with my cookbook.

Wayne Mark Schafer has spent 30 years selling his famous bbq at fairs and festivals. We had the opportunity to conduct an interview with him.  What was the background story behind your bbq pit business ? As a child my mom worked in restaurants. Before she met my stepdad I was carted along to the kitchen. I had a love for watching people cook, then I wanted to do it myself. Later my mom and stepfather started a food concessions business. I helped but in high school wanted to do my own thing. I experimented with smoking meats with different seasonings, and took it on the road at fairs and festivals when I was 19. Remember in this day no one ate smoked meats and beef at fairs or festivals, maybe just the bull roasts. Fairs and festivals had pizza, funnel cakes, sausage, cheesteaks and things quick and easy to make like your regular hot dog.
