The growth of the photography industry over the last few years has been nothing short of remarkable with new studios opening up across the U.S. on a regular basis. The Tana & Rose Photography studio is a boutique brand based around providing intimate family portraits of groups who are hoping to record their life and special memories. Through her work, Tana Ava Taylor shows off the fun she likes t...

Overcoming career challenges in the interest of design with Jamie Maunder

Image
The key to art lies within its subjective nature. Take the age old saying, for instance, that beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. A single image has the power to invoke entirely different emotions from any number of individuals. For this reason, art will never please everyone and for an artist like Jamie Maunder, this has been a career-long challenge. A challenge, however, that he has embraced with an open mind and a will to address wherever possible. He has an unprecedented resilience and in the field of design, this ability could not be rarer. It is with this resilience that he manages to take himself outside of his work and his own personal biases in order to craft designs that please his clients and keep them coming back for more. “The main challenge in my design career has been trying to please everyone. There are always going to be people who love your designs, but there will also always be people who don’t. It took me a long time to accept that reality. If we all li...

Interview With Artist Billy Ma, The Creative Genius Behind Booda Brand

Image
Billy Ma is a painter, sculptor, designer and illustrator. He was born in Taiwan but raised in Canada. 2009 saw Billy growing restless with his job as an art director in innovation and so he began to flex his artistic skills via digital illustrations during his spare time. With the popularity of the first images on social media and enquiries from interested buyers, Booda Brand - the limited-edition print company - was conceived. Drawing from contemporary themes, Billy seamlessly and naturally combines eastern and western aesthetics into his artwork. Many influences come from spirituality, socio-political issues and a sardonic sense of humour. Billy now stands by a set of principles to guide Booda Brand artwork: • The art must be beautifully crafted. Too often we see artists who can barely draw a stick figure. • The art must have an inspirational idea and/or soul. Do we need another variation on a portrait of Marilyn Monroe? • The printing and the materials must be museum quality...

Actress Aida King uses her craft to educate on society’s toughest topics

Image
Aida King is more than simply an actress, she is a storyteller. She makes sure to research every character she is going to portray, knowing that it is not enough to simply read the lines of a script; she has to become someone else, just for a moment, and turn someone who simply exists on the pages of a script into a real person. If she doesn’t know their backstory, she creates one, discovering similarities between herself and her character and key differences. “While I would not describe myself as a method actor, I can say that I truly immerse myself into the character at that moment while filming. Since I have a music background, I apply my method of how I used to prepare for playing music towards acting. I have a part in storytelling, so I ask myself, how do I want to say my part? What do I want the audience to feel?” King described. Such an approach has garnered King a distinguished reputation as an actress in Canada’s film and television scene. She has worked on celebr...

4 Ways to Demonstrate Your Academic Performance Besides GPA

Image
Having a high GPA is just one of the ways that you can put yourself ahead of the game. Of course, not everyone has an impressive GPA . Things happen that can lower your GPA. Some of this is in your control. For example, if you don’t turn in assignments or don’t study for tests, you might get bad grades. Then, you would have a low GPA. Sometimes people will receive a low GPA, but it won’t always be their fault. Serious family emergencies can happen. Students might have medical issues. Other situations like these happen all the time, and they can be a reason that students don’t end up with a high GPA. While you’re in college, you should be calculating your GPA. This will give you an idea of how well you’re doing in school. It can also show you if you need to make any changes. The easiest way to do this is by using a GPA calculator online. Now, you might be worried about what will happen if your GPA isn’t impressive enough. You might be concerned that you won’t be able to ge...

Holiday Love, Double Dumps, and Emotional Expression

Image
Sarah Walton has a thing for romance. An accomplished writer in Hollywood of numerous romantic comedy films including Jump! (Official Selection of the Burbank International Film Festival LA & Cinefest LA), The Dating Ring , Stage 3 Clinger , Em Pathetic , and others, Walton has made a career of manifesting the heartfelt moments for which true romantics yearn. “Write what you know” is what they say in the business; if that’s true then Sarah’s life has been a stream of self-affirming moments. The stories and characters fall under the heading “too good to be true” which is exactly the way Sarah and fans of these movies like it. It’s romantic escapism at its best, which doesn’t reject the yin yang of real romance. Still, there’s a good dose of suspending reality in her latest project Holiday Switch Up . Sometimes you go to your favorite restaurant, confident in their ability to prepare that dish on the menu exactly as you like it; the same is true for the films of Sarah Walton. She i...

THE BINARY NATURE OF A CHINESE ARTIST COMMUNITY: YOUNG CHENG MO XIANG

Image
Those not involved in film and television production may not be aware of the fact that, along with the director, an editor has the greatest impact on the way a story is communicated. If the director is the mother who carries this child until it is ready to face the world, the editor is the father who gives it structure and direction, keeping a watchful eye to ensure it presents itself well to the world. Editor Lou Shuai is an excellent father in these terms. His work with Han Mo Xi Yun (part of China Central Television, with nearly a billion and a half viewers-the single largest TV viewership on the planet) has repeatedly placed his work on some of the most widely viewed and well-received programs on television. Chinese culture has a long history of reverence for art and many of the documentaries which Shuai has edited are focused on this, as with the series Yong Cheng Mo Xiang. Yong Cheng Mo Xiang is a series documentary about 14 top high reputation artist in Ningbo, Zhejiang. Ning ...
