Interview with Gino Ferrand CEO and co-founder of TECLA
TECLA screens remote talent based on timezones, experience, and culture fit and connects them with tech companies throughout the U.S., Canada, and Latin America. TECLA's mission is helping startups expand their engineer hiring pool. We have conducted an interview with their CEO and co-founder Gino Ferrand.
As a professional helping your clients recruit suitable candidates, what makes you stand out from other recruiters?
We have a few things that make us different. First, TECLA is focused entirely on helping connect companies with talented remote developers. The remote trend is one that is growing very quickly among companies but there are still very few recruiters who understand the differences between recruiting local talent versus remote talent. Second, we use a lot of AI software we’ve created for internal use that helps with matching. These internal tools help us make sure we are connecting the right people with the right companies.
What is it that you do in the recruitment process that shows your company "goes the extra mile" for your clients?
The “extra mile” is something that should be applied to every stage of the recruiting process. Primarily, we start by going the extra mile during the sourcing stage. It’s extremely important that the right talent is brought into the process, or else the rest of the recruiting process is simply wasted time. So, we tend to go the extra mile right from the get-go, and we put a lot more focus on sourcing than other recruiters do.
Remote work is on the rise, and it is not a new thing today. How do you identify people that are suitable for remote work?
We have a network of over 3,000 pre-selected and pre-screened remote professionals. We make sure they meet TECLA’s standards before they are reviewed by our clients. We are very much a part of the remote community and that has helped us in our sourcing process. Besides, TECLA itself is a 100% remote company, which means we really understand what it’s like to work remotely.
Which are the top 5 careers for remote workers?
According to a few reports, these are the top 5 remote careers:
- Customer Service.
- Education and training.
- Sales.
- Medical and health.
- Computer and IT.
We focus on #5. Mostly helping software and tech companies with their recruiting and focusing on technical roles.
What do you foresee will be the five ways work will change in the future?
- Remote work on the rise. I believe remote work will continue to grow, and even quicker than it has been growing in popularity throughout the past few years. Transportation in a lot of countries is simply too burdensome, and the cost of living in large cities is skyrocketing. Transportation and cost of living combined with the fact that internet connectivity is being upgraded quickly throughout the world will continue to pave the way for remote work. Also, people are citing what they want from their jobs is more schedule flexibility. More than better pay, or anything else.
- More globalization. As remote work continues to grow I think we will also start seeing companies collaborate more and more (directly) with professionals throughout the world. Once the remote doors are open, there is less of a difference between working with a remote engineer based in Los Angeles or Buenos Aires, for example.
- Better communication tools. We will see more improvements in terms of applications and tools that can help with screen sharing, communication, real-time translation, file sharing, and more.
- AI helping humans. As artificial intelligence continues making its way into every facet of work, I think we’ll see more AI applications and uses that actually help humans do their jobs more efficiently.
- More independent workers. Another trend, besides remote, which is quickly growing is contingent work. This will continue growing in the next few years. More and more professionals are working as contractors or doing freelance work.
