How did you get started in the financial industry?
I'd always been intrigued by the financial industry and hoped to invest at some point in my life. After medical school, I was building my practice and found myself in a position to begin buying stocks. I found myself questioning what the brokers I was paying huge fees for were doing with my money and began educating myself about how the markets work. Eventually, I took control of my investment opportunities and began advising others on a regular basis. After a short time, I found myself unable to devote myself to both medicine and investing meaning I had to end my career as a physician.
What has been the biggest accomplishment of your career?
That is a tough choice because I see my career as having many different periods which are completely separate from each other. Establishing myself as an expert in the financial markets is a major accomplishment I feel blessed to have achieved. Being asked to discuss my investment strategy with top brokers on Wall Street will remain an achievement I am immensely proud of.
Is finance your biggest passion?
My career began in medicine which I am still passionate about and would love to combine with my work in finance. The financial markets are my passion, but eventually, I would like to develop a combination of my interests in medicine and finance to benefit society as a whole.
What motivates you?
As a husband and a parent, I can see that business can shape not just my children and how they view the world but the people that I meet and their children. Our company has trained countless numbers of elderly for free as I feel individuals over the age of 70 are at a difficult place if they haven't figured out the game financially. Investing is something that anyone can do with limited knowledge if the work hard at it and has unlimited potential. I am also motivated by seeing what is my true potential in this space, and I am just starting out as I truly love the game as it is exciting and is intellectually very stimulating to figure out where is the market heading. It is a legal casino, and I can be the house on most days.
How do you stay ahead of the competition?
My work doesn't lace me in direct competition with anybody else. However, to maintain my position as a blogger and public speaker, I do have to stay up to date on the latest trends in the financial markets. To do this, I spend a lot of time researching companies, industrial sectors, and market movements.
Which business leaders, past or present, have inspired you the most?
Recently, I have been looking at the ways technology has changed the financial sector for the better. Exploring the history of technology allowed me to learn about Nikola Tesla who I believe could have changed the way society evolved over the last century if he had been taken seriously. In the present day, I am an admirer of Bill Gates because of the way he has combined philanthropy with a desire to become the head of a new breed of captains of industry.
What is the next step for you?
As an investor, I am always looking for the next market trend to expand my portfolio. I hope to continue writing and will hopefully publish a book detailing my approach to investing. If I can help others with little experience to develop a new way of investing in their future I will have achieved something good with my life.
Investing can be taxing, how do you relax?
I live in a warm climate, so I love sports watching and playing. I love to go to the movies with my family and to relax with my work colleagues and not talking about work. Travel is a big thing for me, and I try to find out about different cultures whenever I can.
What advice do you have for others who want to enter your sector?
Read as much as you can about the markets, so you understand as much as possible before you start investing. Jumping in with both feet can be instructive, but more than likely leads to heavy losses for a first-time investor.
