Interview with Peter Krumins, CEO of Browserling
Browserling is a cross-browser testing service started in 2010 and co-founded in 2011 by Peter Krumins (CEO) and James Halliday. Located in Oakland, California. We have conducted an interview with Peter.
When did you start Browserling and what inspired you to deal with browsers?
I started Browserling in 2010. I teamed up with my friend James Halliday who I met on IRC and we built technology that streams the desktop of a virtual machine to your browser. This technology let anyone connect to any virtual machine and use it from their browser. We weren't sure how to monetize this so we built Browserling that only streams browsers to your browser. We used Amazon EC2 to launch various versions of Windows virtual machines (XP, Vista, 7, etc) and we installed all the possible browser versions on these virtual machines. This allowed users to launch any browser in their own browser and test their websites.
Who will benefit most from your services?
Web developers will benefit the most. Browserling solves a problem that absolutely every web developer has. When they make a website, they've to make sure
it works in all the browsers. There are many different browsers - Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc, and each one of them is a little bit different. Plus there are dozens of different versions - Internet Explorer 10, Firefox 40, Chrome 50, etc. Plus every browser can run on a different platform - Windows XP, Windows 7,
Windows 10, Mac, Linux, etc. Plus there are mobile devices, Androids, iPhones, and mobile versions of all these browsers, and more. Instead of installing all these platforms and browsers yourself, Browserling offers quick access to them online. Developers save a ton of time and money.
You started your startup a few years ago, what are your achievements so far and how do you define success for your business?
Browserling now has 20,000+ users and is a top 40,000 website in the world according to Alexa. I’ll consider it to be a success if it keeps growing. The business is already succeeding and has been growing for the last 48+ months but the big dream is to see it become a huge company. Just like I grew my blog to millions of visitors, I’ll grow Browserling to millions in revenue!
If someone is interested in using your company's services, how can they engage your services?
