How did you get started in the front-end development industry?
I started my career after college in Web design, but I didn't feel fulfilled when I was working solely as a designer fulfilling the design of somebody else. Instead, I wanted to work directly with clients and bring their Web design dreams to life within the confines of an overall brand. After working at some high profile companies in New York and making some contacts, I decided the time was right to begin working for myself as a freelancer.
What has been the biggest accomplishment in your career?
2. Starting my own business is the biggest accomplishment of my life. I started out as a green Web designer with a limited amount of experience which made it difficult for me to start my freelance business. Getting my first client and getting paid for my work for the first time was one of the happiest days of my life.
Is front-end design your biggest passion?
It regards my career as I believe technology will make a major difference in the way we live our lives. Outside of work, I still enjoy coaching baseball as I have loved the game since childhood. I coach a high school team and get a real kick out of working with kids and improving their lives for the future.
What motivates you?
I'm motivated to push forward my career and to develop the technologies I believe will be important for the future. Motivation is not a problem for me as I am driven to show just how impressive my work can be for my clients.
How do you stay ahead of the competition?
Constant learning is the key for me as I believe my clients want to know they have the best possible options regarding technology and success for the future. My brand is linked directly to the success I achieve as a student of new technologies and techniques.
Which business leaders, past or present, have inspired you the most?
James Dyson is a constant inspiration because of his work in design and business. Dyson is also a great inspiration regarding his philanthropic approach to life. I have always admired the financial specialist, George Soros as he is one of the leading lights regarding overcoming adversity.
What is the next step for you?
The next step is always the most important one as moving on from either failure or success is always difficult to do. I try not to stand still and hope to expand my office in Connecticut with a team of designers and technology experts to better serve my clients.
What are some of your favorite tools and resources for your work?
I have been using social media more than ever to improve my connection to my clients. Linkedin has become a major marketing option for me as I feel this is the best option for meeting new clients and staying in contact with those I am already working with.
Front-end Development can be taxing, how do you relax?
Relaxation is important to me, and I enjoy my time to coach baseball for young people. I find myself losing myself in thought about baseball when I hit the diamond, and any stress I feel drains away from me.
