Power to E-learning

Costanza Casullo is a classical guitarist from Milan, Italy. We have conducted an interview with her about her teaching activities on skillshare and her project Power to E-learning.

Which are your teaching activities on skillshare?

I teach classical guitar on Skillshare. There are currently 3 classes aspiring guitar players can enrol in and I am working on the 4th one.

What is your project 'Power to E-learning' about? Please tell us a little more.

As I was promoting my Skillshare’s course on social media (mainly on Linkedin), I noticed from the comments, invites to connect and messages I was receiving that people were actually more interested in learning how I created the guitar course than in actually learning how to play the guitar!

So I spotted a gap in the e-learning industry, which is providing free resources and inspiration for aspiring online instructors. There are a lot of online lessons marketplaces out there such as Udemy and Skillshare, but very few platforms that teach you how to actually create the courses you might want to sell.

That is where I got the idea to create a blog and podcast with the missing resources for aspiring online teachers from.

Why do you want to provide resources and information to aspiring online instructors with a podcast and blog? How does this contribution benefit everyone?

Like I mentioned above, there are a lot of marketplaces for online courses but very few ‘schools’ for aspiring online instructors. The blog and podcast is just the start, it’s surely a source of inspiration (hopefully!) for those who want to teach online as I provide successful examples but I hope to start my own school for online teachers someday! In addition, I listen to a lot of podcasts and read a lot of blogs myself and find a lot of them very informative and inspiring. For example, I read a post on the edtech blog EdSurge about the exponential growth in the number of MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) available over the past few years. Receiving training on how to become an online teacher is certainly a skill for the present, and for the future!

What are the subjects and learning contents included in the resources?

As I am a professional musician, much of the focus has been on music. However, as the platform is called Power to E-learning and not E-music learning, I have got podcast interviews scheduled with instructors from other areas of specialism including fine art and science.
