Epic Horror Battles

Trent Duncan is an independent Filmmaker and Military Veteran, serving 5 yrs in the US Navy. He creates Epic Horror Battles of all your favorite old school horror characters such as Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Ghostface, etc. Called Fan Films. We have conducted an interview with him.

When were you first inspired to create 'Epic Horror Battles' with the old school horror characters?
Back in 2011 my friend and now co-producer, Cheyenne Autumn Hess, wore his authentic looking Jason Voorhees costume to act in a fan film with another local filmmaker. Nothing much came of the film, but it gave me an idea. I knew I could create great movies, so why not try fan films. So, we shot Jason vs Leatherface , which quickly gained over one million views on YouTube. After that, we started making more.

Amongst Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Jason Voorhees, Leatherface, Ghostface, who is your favorite old school horror character?
My favorite would have to be Freddy Krueger only because he haunts your nightmares. Trying to stay awake is tough enough, but once you’re in the dream world, anything can happen!

How does a typical day or week of indie filmmaking of these fan films like?
When making a film, it's broken into 3 phases; pre-production, production, and post-production. Pre-production consists of a lot of planning and logistics. This is the most important part of the process. Poor planning will result in a poor movie. The production consists of the actual filming of the movie. This is always fun because I get to see the characters and actions come to life. Finally, post-production involves all the editing, special effects, and sound design. It’s a fun process and every aspect requires your full attention in order to create a great film.

Which is the best comment you have ever received on your Youtube channel?
That’s a great question. Just like any other YouTube creator, I get a variety of colorful comments. The best ones are when people tell me that I inspire them to make their own movies. That’s a good feeling. Of course, every once and awhile I’ll screenshot a few that are very flattering. Here’s one from GalacticDragonFilms:

“HOLY CRAP… THIS IS HONESTLY THE GREATEST FAN MADE FILM EVER MADE!!! I LITERALLY CONSIDER THIS A MASTERPIECE. GREEEEEAAAAAAT WORK!”

Which video, was in particular, the most fun and challenging to make?
I would have to say Jason vs Michael  was both fun and challenging. It’s exciting writing and shooting a film around the anticipated battle between two of the biggest horror icons. The fans have been asking about it for a while so that anticipation added a little pressure when it came to making something good. So, I added some old school campy humor along with some easter eggs, then finished it off with an epic fight scene.
