Interview with Troy D. Renkemeyer on tax and business consultancy

Tonight our guest is Troy D. Renkemeyer, a tax specialist and business consultant. We have conducted an interview with him.

As a business consultant, other than a law degree, what other qualifications does Troy D. Renkemeyer posses?
I’m also a CPA, but the most important thing about me is a decade of helping businesses with tax, income and overall business strategy. Every growing business needs a good consultant. Especially when financial decisions are to be made.

What are your key strengths and what are you most successful at?
My greatest strength is my ability to boil complex tax and legal issues down to very simple and easy to understand terms. This is key for helping business owners make sense of the financial decisions in front of them. I am most successful at protecting hard earned revenue from the IRS – or at least – making sure that what is owed is fair and legal. Those two things aren’t always the same, unfortunately.

What do you plan on focusing on in the future?
One of the most important things I’ll be working on is serving as an overall business consultant to the at large business community. Not just tax or legal, but overall growth and sustainability plans. Troy D. Renkemeyer is serious about growing businesses. If this is something your firm wishes to do, I can help!

What are your other business related experiences?
My entire career has been devoted to CPA work, tax work and legal work. To the extent that I can leverage that to help businesses, that’s what I’ll do. I have started on sold several business myself, and I speak from experience when collaborating with other business owners to do the same.

How exactly could you help tax payers who owe the IRS?
That’s a tricky one to answer. Each situation is unique. I often times can negotiate on a company’s behalf to make sure that everything is set up accordingly for a reduced payment plan. More often than not, I work with the two parties on a long term strategy or to clarify tax related issues for the future. Strategy is what’s really important.

What advice would you give to a business considering hiring a consultant?
Please. Make sure you hire reputable professional. My firm – Renkemeyer Tax and Consulting – is flooded with bad examples of people who got burned by a non-professional who gave them bad tax or legal advice. Make sure you get what you are paying for!!!

Any final thoughts on the state of the tax consulting industry?
Tax code and the law in general are ever changing. What worked five years ago may not work now. Make sure your consultant is certified as a CPA and also has a legal background and history working with the IRS. The industry changes, but good people remain.
