Today our guest is Gaetan Van Ooteghem, from Brussels, Belgium. He is the co-founder of www.SmileFocus.org that allows anyone to make donations to charity just by opening new tabs. It is a great way for people to make to contribute to a better world without spending any money and without changing habits! We have conducted an interview with Gaetan.
What is "SmileFocus" about?
SmileFocus allows anyone to donate to charity just by opening new tabs on their Internet browser. SmileFocus replaces your boring new tab page by a stunning page of our own that raises money for charity every time it's opened! We are a Belgian startup that wanted to transform a daily habit and make it really useful!
How does it work?
SmileFocus replaces your boring new tab page by a beautiful custom page. It also displays a small sponsored content on it. It could be a promotional offer, a news article, or just an ad. The revenue generated by the sponsored content is used to finance a charity.
Why did you create SmileFocus?
One day, we learned that $600 million were spent every day in online advertising. We then thought of all the world problems that could be solved with just a few days worth of online ads. That is when we decided that our mission would be to transform advertising budgets into charity donations and humanitarian financing.
Moreover, a lot of people want to help but do not always have the money or the time. With SmileFocus, you don't need to spend a dime, or change your browsing habits. We actually donate to charity for something you already do. If you are like me, you probably constantly have half a dozen of tabs opened at the same time.
What causes are you financing?
The current cause is to help refugees worldwide, particularly Syrian refugees. We donate to the UN Refugee Agency that works with local partners and NGO's to provide basic survival kits containing food, medicine,... to those who need it. The Syrian refugee crisis is one of the worst human disasters of our times, so it seemed natural we would do something about it.
Who is it for?
Anyone can use it. All you need to have is a computer! You just need to visit our website www.SmileFocus.org and install our app and you can start contributing, one tab at a time!
