Italian DJ and producer Zutex on his music

Image
Zutex is a DJ / producer from Vicenza (Italy) born on January 24, 1992. From the early years he attended several piano courses and at the age of 16 he studied at the Vicenza Conservatory. At the age of 23, he enrolled for the first time in an electronic music academy (Audioacademy) and then at the Istituto Musicale Veneto to perfect his Ableton Live studio. The Zutex genre ranges from Hardstyle to Raw with currently 4 fully self-produced active productions. As a DJ / producer, what's the biggest challenge? How are you getting over it? Certainly one of the biggest challenges of today is to be able to emerge among the many DJs and producers who every day, thanks also to social media and new technological equipment on the market, are born on the web. My advice to overcome this big problem is to try more and more in new production styles and above all personal looking for complex and exclusive sounds. What is your musical background? If you are given another chan...

Interview with indie musician Andrew Hetherington

Image
Andrew Hetherington is an Australian indie musician, songwriter and producer. One of life’s polymaths, Hetherington straddles these roles with confidence bringing a fierce originality yet still classic sound, forged by the music he grew up with. 80s retro-wave, laced with smooth synths, mellow guitars and achingly beautiful vocals meet the harmony and rhythms of classic pop. We have conducted an interview with him. As an indie musician growing up with 80s retro-wave, laced with smooth synths, mellow guitars and achingly beautiful vocals, what influences your music? I’m heavily influenced by the music I grew up with, which was composed of great rhythms and melodies played by great bands in the 70s & 80s. I think this influence is instinctively reflected in my music and is naturally incorporated from somewhere deeply subconscious. What do you consider in your musical strengths and background that differentiates your music? I’m probably a little bit older than my pee...

Alex Stewart talks ‘The Contender’ and love for composing

Image
Alex Stewart will never forget the first time he heard his music on the television. At the time, he was just an aspiring composer, and hearing his music broadcast to his entire country was a dream come true. It was a moment where all his hard work had paid off, and he could see his bright future. Now, he hears his music all the time, and that elated feeling remains the same. Hailing from Australia, Stewart is an internationally in-demand composer. Working on shows like Paradise Hotel , Temptation Island , The Curse of Civil War Gold , Steve Harvey’s Funderdome and many more, he has shown the world just how versatile and talented he is. At the end of the day, however, Stewart is just happy to do what he loves: making music for the masses. “The thing I love most about approaching making music as a composer is the absolute freedom to create new things sonically. Especially now with technology, composers can make music with virtually any sound, which means there are no limi...

Junbai Zhou: Seeing and Hearing Music

Image
Versatility is a strength no matter what your profession. Chief Lighting Technician Junbai Zhou has found that her skills have allowed her to vacillate between feature films like If She Screams, television series (Amazon Prime’s Breakfast with Granny), and photo shoots for iconic publications like Harper’s Bazaar, but she professes a great affinity for music videos and the versatility this canvas offers. Describing what she finds so appealing about this medium, Junbai relates, “Sometimes it can be really hard to find people have the same passion as I do; to want to break the limits and bring new possibilities with lighting to these productions. I enjoy working on films and TV but one of the best parts of being involved in the music video production community is that I get the opportunity to work with different directors from different countries from day to day. It’s a very interesting journey and a priceless experience.”                 ...

Producer Jordan Oorebeek talks working with Chris Buck Band and passion for music

Image
Jordan Oorebeek naturally has a strong ear for music with a great relative pitch, which is part of what makes him such an extraordinary recording engineer, mix engineer, and producer. That innate talent, combined with sheer determination and consistent practice, has allowed him to become one of Canada’s most distinguished individuals at his craft. “I played in a few bands in my teens and I enjoyed it, but I knew there was something more for me than playing in a band. Once I began writing my own songs and working with my band on the demos, I realized how much work it took to produce a song. I quickly learned how hard it is to make a ‘good’ song and I wanted to learn how to create that sound. What makes a song radio ready? How would I achieve this with the tools at my disposal? Those were the questions that pushed me toward my dream of becoming an Engineer/Producer,” said Oorebeek. Throughout his career, Oorebeek has shown time and time again just why he is such an in-deman...

Lang Zhao Explains The Resonance Project

Image
The artists who innovate are never the ones who “play it safe.” These forward thinking creative types are often deeply consumed in their own world and receive critical praise long before the public en mass follows suit. There are not many music groups comprised of only two members; even fewer who fall into the genre of instrumental music. This premise did not deter drummer Lang Zhao and Bassist/Guitarist Yas Nomura in forming The Resonance Project; of course, these are two very uncommon and extraordinary musicians. Both are multi-instrumentalists who served multiple roles in the creation of the band’s self-titled debut offering. Released in June of this year, The Resonance Project was awarded a 5 out of 5 rank by PROG magazine who stated, “This album definitely stands out as one of the best debut albums of the whole modern progressive scene”. The album ranked #3 in metal/ progressive category; leading drumstick company Vic Firth (owned by global cymbal giant Zildjian) to feature vide...

The REASN for an Extraordinary Guitarist: Adam Skeppar

Image
Even as the music business explores new ways to navigate the constant changes in technology and the industry, great talent perseveres. Though many will tell you that it’s harder than ever for a “hired gun” musician to make it these days, guitarist Adam Skeppar is one of the most sought after and coveted in the modern music scene. Creating his prominence with an evergreen approach of talent, tenacious work ethic, and versatility; Skeppar is the late 2010s version of musical gunslinger in the lineage of Steve Lukather and Steve Vai. Though he has proven a number of times that he is capable of the pyrotechnics which thrills guitar geeks, a major contributor to his jam-packed calendar is his tendency to sideline this in order to best serve the song. Adam concedes that the artists whom he works with will unleash this part of his musical personality from time to time to the delight of the fans. Listening to his playing on recordings or live in concert is literally witnessing a master artist...

"Legend Seekers" - interview with composer and violinist Sarah Wallin Huff

Image
Sarah Wallin Huff is a composer and violinist, and she just released an epic, “homegrown” instrumental album featuring her concerto for 6-string electric violin. We have conducted an interview with her. Why do you named this album "Legend Seekers"? I called this album “Legend Seekers” because of the title of the first movement of “Leviathan of the Ancient Deep”: “Seekers of the Legend”. This album was meant to feature that concerto for 6-string violin, and its opening movement seemed to set the stage for everything nicely. As I decided on the other works that would complete the album, I realized that each told their own story of someone seeking their own legend in their own way. How long have you been working on this album? What was the greatest challenge? It’s been a long road making this album. I completed “Leviathan of the Ancient Deep” in 2008, and for the last four or five years I’d been trying to get funding to make a representative recording of ...

An Australian “Fountain”

Image
By Kelly King Australian artist SNY has a soft spot for America. His love of hip hop makes this natural and he’s given props to the culture in his video and audio presentations of these. The hit song “I Might” features a video filmed in the Hollywood Hills and on iconic Rodeo Drive. It’s an ode to the joyful SoCal lifestyle and music which inspired SNY. He followed this with “Fountain” named for the intersection of Fountain Ave and Spaulding Ave in West Hollywood. A music artist writes when inspiration strikes and SNY (aka Sonny Stojanovic) felt the allure that California holds for so many visitors from all corners of the planet. Chicago Producer/artist Young Chop collaborated with SNY on “Fountain” in terms of the beats which punctuate the melody and cadence of SNY’s raps. Young Chop is known for his work with such internationally acclaimed artists as Wiz Khalifa, Kanye West, Swae Lee, and Chief Keef’s multiplatinum hit “I Don’t Like.” Chop and SNY have worked on previous ...

Interview with singer and songwriter Cloudy Retro

Image
Mansoor Syed, better known by his stage name, "Cloudy Retro", is a 19 year old singer/songwriter based in Athens, Georgia. Enamored by music since childhood, Retro grew up writing songs and poetry, keen to share his musical talent with the rest of the world. In July of 2018, Retro released his debut album, " Eleven Thirteen Sixteen " to the public, an album met with moderate praise.   Cloudy Retro is also a published poet and painter. He aims to spread his messages in abstract languages other than the five he already knows. When he's not dabbling in the arts, he likes to collect and play video games, study for school, or spend time with his family and his cat. As a young singer/songwriter who has debuted your album, what do you think it takes to be a songwriter at this young age? It doesn't take anything more than perseverance. Too many people quit when their projects or art start to become difficult. But I can assure you that that wouldn'...
