What is your Internet writing life motto? What made you have one? Keep it Poetry and Poetry Will Keep You. It's if you want the life style you must live the life style. In 2008 when I looked for a place to share my poetry I read many websites. Poets had short biographies, and I did not have any, but I posted anyway without having one. I was self taught, and as time came by I reflected on things I learned so I came up with one, and it's about changing and growing, furthermore listening and observing life, the arts of literature and the histories of it all. ...

GIVING AN EXTRA TOUCH OF CLASS TO A JAPANESE RESTAURANT

Image
The way in which a product is presented is as important as the product itself, sometimes even more so. While the entrepreneur in all of us would like to believe that a superior product or service always receives the most attention, that simply is not reality. Jim Ward understands this extremely well. This designer has worked with countless well known and lesser known brands and companies to enable them to reach their customers more accurately and effectively. In a manner similar to the way a great film director crafts and presents a story to entertain the masses, Ward crafts the proper camera angles, lighting, even costuming…or the equivalent of these in the advertising/branding world. This award-nominated Designer has been the discerning eye and guiding force for names such as Haagen Dazs, Byron Burgers, Deliveroo, and many more. His work with the pan-Asian restaurant Wagamama transformed their aesthetic into a much more sleek and considered look which derived its inspiration from th...

Interview with American playwright Les Thomas

Image
Today our guest is Les Thomas an American playwright traveling to Europe in early 2018 to continue researching Pontius Pilate for a stage play. We have conducted an interview with him. What brought you to write a play about Pontius Pilate? Why are you still researching his history? Seeing Basil Rathbone’s portrayal of Pontius Pilate in RKO Radio Pictures’ 1935 ‘The Last Days of Pompeii’ was life-changing! Rathbone’s Pilate displayed such evocative guilt at his actions that I was crying for his pain; Jesus was literally out of the frame (for those who've seen the film know Jesus is never fully shown in a literal frame of the print but remains one of his most powerful filmic “appearances”). And so during Lent of 2014, I wrote a full-length play entitled ‘Acts of Pilate’ based largely off apocryphal texts examining Pilate’s role during The Passion. To me, it fell flat as a work in the art of the drama. This was roundly the critical consensus. To my surprise, it found mos...

LIGHTING THE DAYS OF FUTURE PAST WITH NING JI

Image
The Latin American community has given us many fine actors and actresses ranging from Oscar Nominees like Edward James Olmos and Andy Garcia to Golden Globe winner America Ferrera and countless others. The list goes on and on and we’re only discussing those in front of the camera. The Chicano Legacy Project has presented a means for the storytelling legacy of their culture in LA to encourage at risk Chicano youth to channel their energy into a productive and creative outlet. Working with Young Theaterworks, hundreds of East LA’s highest risk students have been engaged in using their forces to create works of art rather than less productive means of dealing with the frustration they have. Lighting and projection designer Ning Ji is no stranger to the importance of one’s own cultural contributions. An acclaimed professional in live theater and concert productions around the world, her homeland of China is always within her. She relates, “There is a play called Begonia which I wo...

Art Prodigy - interview with Voncille Smith

Image
Today our guest is Voncille Smith , also known as Infinity. She is originally from Saint Petersburg, Florida but currently she lives in Austin, Texas. We have conducted an interview with her about her initiative Art Prodigy LLC . What inspires you to create Abstract Art, especially for the very first piece? I enjoy revealing the power of woke consciousness through my work. Woke consciousness is the awareness that who we are is neither the totality of our existence nor the totality of life's meaning. Painting Abstract expands the viewing experience and invites questions to be asked. Energy and emotion beckons to be evoked, that's my inspiration. Who are influencers of your art style and artwork? Mark Rothko and Andy Warhol. Rothko because I find his use of colors to be intense and meaningful. Warhol because his work reminds me that creativity is where an open mind can thrive. What kind of painting do you enjoy making and appreciate the most? Ma...

Neighborhood of Dreams - interview with author LazRael Lison

Image
Today our guest is LazRael Lison, author of " Neighborhood of Dreams ". We have conducted an interview with him. So, LazRael Lison, you’re originally from Little Rock, Arkansas? I’ve never been there. Yep. Winchester and Little Rock . So what was life like growing up in the south? I’m sure it was much different than the life you’re accustom to living now. Totally. But I’m so appreciative of my southern roots because it’s made me the man I am today. We grew up in a two-bedroom mobile home with about nine people living in it. No lie. Wow! When I look back, that was the greatest thing ever happen to me, because I learned to be happy with very little. I never knew we were close to the poverty line. I think when your around people you love and that love you, it somehow overshadows the lack of everything else when you’re a child. However, that’s where the dreams started. Speaking of Dreams. Let us jump right into this book, “Neighborhood of Dreams...

Instrumental Nu Jazz - Interview with Han Sino

Image
Han Sino is an artist of instrumental Nu Jazz musical creation and Urban Spoken Word Poetry. Blessed by the 90’s Hip Hop, groove and Electronic golden age, Han Sino has, during this today greatly prized era, quite quickly acquired, a strong culture about Afro American 70's, and 80's, and secondarily 60's music.  As a young mellowman, he sees his vision of the world turned upside down by Free Jazz and Jazz Funk classics. He discovers John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, and Alice Coltrane, among others… Armed with a rich musical culture, in the second half of the years 2000, he approaches beatmaking, first, in solo, then, for a few Hip Hop artists.  Essentially self-taught, Han Sino has perfected his musical training and ear with the excellent double bass player, bassist and keyboardist, Jade A.K.A JadeNacre (Jean Luc Riga), during a year and a half. This will be followed by a deep metamorphosis of his creativity, as well as a progressive development of his musical mat...

WITH GREAT CREATIVITY: THE MOON ALSO RISES

Image
Most of us have taken a photo with our smartphone, slapped a lens on it with a few effects…maybe tweaked the color and brightness a bit. We’re rewarded with a pleasing photo but that doesn’t make it art. Of course, the definition of art itself evolves and is somewhat subject to the recipient. Cinema is perfectly correlated to this example. Many of today’s films are visually pleasing, entertaining, and illicit a response but this may be more a result of classical conditioning than real innovation and impact. The status quo may be artistic but rarely possesses a unique voice. The tip of the spear in film, as in most creative endeavors, is wielded by those who take big chances with their talent. The Moon Also Rises ideally displays this very premise. Yao Yu (writer/director) exhibits true vision in this 2018 film. There is an inverse correlation in the film’s running time (at a curt seven minutes) and it’s striking nature. The dichotomy of this comedy/drama comes across effortle...

Destroying and Re-assembling the Decades of Mason Carroll

Image
One of the most important and all too often overlooked roles in film and television production is that of editor. The men and women who take part in this vocation do much more than simply linking parts of the footage shot by the director, cinematographer, and actors. Yu Jung Hou is an editor known for her work on a wide variety of productions from Disney’s The Incredibles 2 to The Profit (TV series) and many more. She is highly renowned in the indie film scene. Two productions of this past year illustrate the utilization of completely contrasting approaches by her to propel the story. Chaos and order both have their proper place in Yu Jung ’s professional universe and as long as the film becomes better, these tools are warranted. ( Photo: Jared Nickerson ) When producer Destiny Lilly and director Michael Markham contacted Yu Jung about editing The Decades of Mason Carroll , it was based on glowing recommendations and her impressive prior work. Their work together required ...

THE ELDERLY EXTROVERT OF LOOK AT ME

Image
Connection is almost universally what people desire. Social media, family reunions, dating, all of these are ways to connect with others. Interaction is something that most of us overlook until it is lacking. This only becomes more difficult as we age. The film Look at Me is the tale of one elderly man’s decision to go to great lengths in order to make this connection. Simultaneously endearing and uncomfortable, the story is likely a glimpse into a situation many deal with in their lives but rarely exhibit the courage seen by Everett in his quest to obtain true fullfillment. The connection of this story with an appreciative audience is irrefutable as Look at Me received awards from the Humboldt International Festival, awarded Best International short film at the Foyle Film Festival, and was screened at the Phoenix Film Festival and Ozark foothills Filmfest. Look at Me centers on the life of Everett, a seventy-four-year old man. He is aware that he is likely in the last year...
